Elementary Age
Christian Education Hour
Christian Education is offered for Pre-K - 6th grade from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm on Sunday mornings following the worship service.
Pre-K - 4th Grade
We believe that parents are the primary faith nurturers and educators of their children and that the commands of God are taught best in the normal flow of life (Deut. 6:7-9). The church is to be an important resource to support families in the faith development of their children, but is most effective when working in tandem with the family to grow a child's understanding and experience of God.
In order to partner with you, we have created this overview of our Sunday morning Christian Education curriculum called Dwell. The Dwell curriculum is published by Faith Alive, Christian Reformed Church Publications. Click here to learn more about the program’s goals and philosophy, specific units covered by different age groups including memory verses and songs taught along the way. You will note when looking at the scope and sequence that the curriculum is divided into Year 1 and Year 2. Year 1 lessons are taught during school years beginning with an odd number and Year 2 lessons during school years beginning with an even number.
Here is a list of how our classes match up with the Dwell levels:
Pre-K/Kindergarten = Imagine
1st/2nd Grade = Wonder
3rd and 4th Grade = Marvel
NorthStar (5th - 6th Grade)
Every other year, our 5th/6th graders spend the year learning the deep truths of the Gospel as summarized in a shortened version of the Westminster Catechism. Using a curriculum developed by our own Mrs. Donovan, students will consider questions like the following:
• What is man’s primary purpose in life?
• What does the Bible primarily teach?
• What is God?
They will be looking to the Scriptures for answers because they’ll be learning that we need to know what God has to say about the important questions of life. There’ll be some great discussions and lots of fun along the way.
On the alternating year, we look at "Being a Christian: What difference does it make?" This curriculum, developed by our own gifted teachers, covers topics such as friendship, growing as a Christian, the Lord's prayer and developing a Christian World View.
